I'm proud of my St Augustine lawn. It's nice to look at and feels good on the feet. My arch enemy, whom I desire to pull up by the roots wherever he grows----is the dreaded ugly as sin dallis grass. No it is not spelled Dallas grass. Don't taint a Texas city.
Four years ago, the dreaded beast staked out a settlement in my back yard(we just moved in). After trying fertilizers, back breaking labor, and other stuff for the first year, I finally came upon a natural solution. I decided to harvest the seeds prior to every mowing. Not a quick solution and I did not expect to see any benefits until the next year, then the next year, and the next year.
Stop the weed before it seeds and turns into an evil deed.
It's taken some time, but I've reduced the things by about 87%. Each year a big leap. My St Augustine is healthier and is spreading over the rest of the lawn. The next villian??? Nut Sedge....of which the sale, propagation or distribution of is prohibited. This weed is actually ILLEGAL.
Just say NO to dallis grass and nut sedge in your lawn and your life. Remember you will not reap what you do not sow.
